The last morning at Kakamega I got up at five and went for the sunrise walk. Trekking through the forest in the darkness with only our handheld flashlights my guide and I eventually reached the top of a hill that emerged like an island in a sea of trees and green leaves shortly before the sun came up. Watching the shifting mists rising from the jungle floor and listening to the sounds of the forest creatures awakening from a night´s slumber was a real treat. Idyllic.
