My purpose in going to Kenya was to visit two smaller parks in the west. The first of these was Kakamega Forest Reserve a pristine patch of rainforest that used to cover the whole of central Africa. A morning walk on the jungle trail down to the Mawa River and back was followed by a visit from the local Colobos family as they noisily made their way through the trees to emerge on the edge of camp. I lay down on the grass beneath the trees and observed them for over an hour as they played their games, munched on the leaves and groomed each other. I was the sole visitor in camp and thus the only witness to this spectacle. One of the most peaceful times for me on my trip---alone with the monkeys.
